The story is told backwards and in the end there is guilt and nazis! That describes . . . wait, Ishiguro's first three books. I remember enjoying the book at the time, so maybe it was just unfortunate that there were a whole spate of "oh my god, he was a nazi books!" when I read this. Both of Olafus Olafson's books (The Journey Home and that other one), and I read "Time's Arrow" at the same time. Nazi's were bad, its ironic and disturbing to discover that good people were Nazi's. We get it already.
