This book was a delight. I loved that the chapters culminated in themed recipes--although I doubt I could duplicate Paula's cooking. Truly, what I really enjoyed was both the candor and no-apologies (except, of course, when she WAS apologizing) transparency of Paula in sharing the often disparaging aspects of her life history. In contrast to Martha Stewart's uppity, New England "snoot-drawl" (as I like to call it) Paula's Southern beauty and determination to accept and love herself and others was comparable to eating one of her dishes--satisfying, communal, and a bit self indulgent. Paula Deen is truly an accomplished and genuine individual like her or not. I heartily and thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to learning more about her cooking and baking. Before I was given this book as a gift I only knew her by name. I would also recommend this book to anyone who suffers from agoraphobia.
