I'm still sort of reading this book. It's a bit of a difficult read, but interesting, nonetheless. I wrote a letter to the author, and here it is: Dear Ms. Kingsolver, Thank you so much for writing about this topic. It really puts the consumption of food in perspective. Since I have started reading your book, I have stopped eating CAFO meat, which means that I've been vegetarian 80% of the time. I now shop locally at farmer's markets and be sure to buy organic when possible. It also makes me feel so lucky, so fortunate, to live in California, a state so rich with fresh and tasty produce. The strawberry fields that I grew up around produce the best strawberries in the world. The avocados are to die for. In fact, there is little that California does not produce. But then again, if it doesn't grow in California, I don't think I'd want to eat it. Well, okay, I'll eat pineapples and mangoes, and bananas, but really, is there anything else? Oh, okay, coffee, tea, and chocolate. BUT THAT'S IT. But you have realized, also, that California is such a wonderful state. Why else would you mention it so many times in your book? You have inspired me to write a book about the many wonders of California. Except my book would be more interesting and I wouldn't sound like a self-righteous, condescending bitch with her head up her ass. Sincerely, Sonja Alli-Casella
